2013 | Develop course and teach GIS and Google Earth
The objective of this project was to teach a school class of 16 year old geography students the principles of Google Earth and how the program could be used as a Geographic Information System. To achieve the objective a series of lessons was developed that were based on existing material on the educational GIS portal . The central theme was the internal processes of the Earth (e.g. earthquakes, tectonics and volcanoes). Pairs of students had to select a tectonically interesting region (e.g. Japan, Iceland, Hawai) and present the processes using Google Earth. During three weeks the students learned how to use the program to meet the requirements of the presentation. Some of which were actually very good, like the poster of Sumatra below.
